This last weekend my family and I headed up to Taft for Round One of the Big 6 Grand Prix Series. I am going to miss most of these rounds this year, so it was really just more for fun but it ended up being a great weekend!

I ended up getting three races in on Saturday, and we left early Sunday morning as both my dad and I got food poisening—I got the coconut shrimp at a dicy restaurant; it was my fault.
The Dirt Diggers did an awsome job on the course prep, and their enthusiasm showed in every little bit of the race course! The unclassified race was fun as I kinda just took some time to learn the lines and see where I could really push it durring my actual race.
In the second race, the Open Expert Race, I finally got the start that I have been waiting for all year. My bike lit first kick, and I was off literally in front of everyone who has been getting great starts on me all year. Colton Sanders and his E-start still got the jump on me, but we were 1-2 through the first few turns.
About three turns in we both went down in the mud and I had to play catchup the rest of the race. I ended in 4th overall, but First in the Desert division, so either way I’ll take it. I’m really not concentrating on this stuff, so I was happy to finish where I did!
In the afternoon race, I teamed up with my friend Justin Schultz from So Cal. He is newly turned Expert, and has been stepping it up on his new Yamaha. We weren’t trying to win, and really just wanted to have fun, so that is what we did and we each rode 4 laps.
When it was all said and done we finished 8th overall, but didn’t care because the course was awesome and it was basically an excuse for us to be out on the track for a few more laps. The weekend was a total success though because I now have three wins in the desert class, and I am in first overall for points. This weekend was really just some seat time before Round Two of the National Hare and Hound Series next week, and I got everything that I expected out of it.
It’s been a great year so far, and I’m hoping to roll with my current results and carry them over this week to Round 2! I’m currently first overall in District 37 Desert Points with three wins, and Third Overall in NHHA points after the third at Round 1. I’ll keep you all updated on round 2 when I get home on Monday!
